Grade Boundaries & Scaling Factors

Our Exam Board Specific Assessment Trackers will instantaneously convert raw marks in to estimated grades using our grade boundaries. They will also apply any Scaling Factors for courses that use them so you can be confident that estimated grades are worked out in the same way as the exam boards do for your course.

Here you can find out about our approach to setting grade boundaries for 2017-18 & get information on Scaling Factors. In each of the subject areas you can download the grade boundaries set using our approach.

Grade Boundary Comparisons
In 2017 we aimed to come up with a solution for the anxiety caused by the lack of guidance on grade boundaries. We published the grade boundaries we had estimated and used in our trackers for all teachers to use. We also showed the methodology that we based our estimates on. Here we have published how our boundaries compared to the 2018 boundaries to support discussion between teachers and leaders.

Use the 2017-18 comparison for English & Maths to help inform how much you might want to shift the grade boundaries by to add challenge, but keep them realistic.
